Ken StanhopeSince the age of twelve I have been a very keen photographer. In my early days I used to frequent the London jazz clubs, taking shots of musicians: the money earned from this supplemented my meagre National Service pay. For most of my time in photo journalism I have specialised mainly in yachting events. My personal highlight was a picture of the Royal Yacht Britannia, when Her Majesty the Queen and President Clinton were reviewing the fleet at Spithead in 1994 to commemorate the 1944 D Day landings. Being rather pleased with my photo I forwarded it to Buckingham Palace. To my delight it met with the Queen’s approval and was taken to Sandringham for the Royals to see at Christmas. The following February I received a letter informing me that my picture was to be hung on the Britannia. Now I am retired I have the opportunity to devote my time to taking photos which please me. The pictures in this portfolio (with the exception of the Royal Yacht) have all been taken recently, illustrating my wide range of photographic interests. |
